Huggybear747 (12:38:26 AM): Well, a turntable is more then what people make it out to be, and it is what it is
OctopusFleg (12:38:40 AM): true
Huggybear747 (12:38:50 AM): it's more then an instrument, there's no need to prove a scratch is music
Huggybear747 (12:39:21 AM): there's no need to try to incorporate it into notation.......it is a blend of new and old......it can be all these things
Huggybear747 (12:40:50 AM): in everything, new things sometimes hurt to hear, and sometimes old instruments and styles can be watered down and repetitive
OctopusFleg (12:41:02 AM): true
OctopusFleg (12:41:19 AM): thats why making beats in its primary stages is flawed
Huggybear747 (12:41:31 AM): I think alot of it has to do with just being young, the culture, the evolution of the instrument itself
OctopusFleg (12:41:33 AM): your dumbing down the past
OctopusFleg (12:41:49 AM): people listen to music and don't think about an instrument
OctopusFleg (12:41:52 AM): i realized that
OctopusFleg (12:41:56 AM): i don't think i did too
OctopusFleg (12:42:04 AM): i would here a great rap beat
Huggybear747 (12:42:24 AM): but it took hundreds of years to make music music back then, you take a turntable and turn it into a whole culture and approach to sound in the span of say, 30 years.......it's quite amazing
OctopusFleg (12:42:30 AM): but it would never register, ooo that jazz guitar is great/ has a great sound. or i really like that plucked bass
Huggybear747 (12:42:50 AM): I never paid attention to lyrics hardly
OctopusFleg (12:42:55 AM): me neither
OctopusFleg (12:42:58 AM): u know
Huggybear747 (12:43:00 AM): and that's what really drives the genre right?
Huggybear747 (12:43:05 AM): that makes it different
OctopusFleg (12:43:06 AM): i always had this thought
OctopusFleg (12:43:17 AM): when i was probably in elementary school
Huggybear747 (12:43:20 AM): but I never paid attention
OctopusFleg (12:43:29 AM): we were driving at the top of my street
OctopusFleg (12:43:36 AM): and i know i thought it before
OctopusFleg (12:43:40 AM): but i remember that time
OctopusFleg (12:43:47 AM): it ws in our old-ass van
OctopusFleg (12:44:11 AM): i thought, "what will happen if another good beat never comes out"
OctopusFleg (12:44:16 AM): it scared me
OctopusFleg (12:44:27 AM): but then sure enough, another good beat would come out
OctopusFleg (12:44:42 AM): somewhere along the line though this changed
OctopusFleg (12:44:55 AM): and now indeed is the time where no good beats come out
OctopusFleg (12:44:56 AM): on the radio
Huggybear747 (12:45:00 AM): Yeah, I think alot of my beginning musical tastes were to serve a purpose of conformity
OctopusFleg (12:45:05 AM): not everywher, but on the radio
OctopusFleg (12:45:15 AM): really
OctopusFleg (12:45:27 AM): i went to an all white (basically) school
OctopusFleg (12:45:40 AM): no one liked rap in elementary school
Huggybear747 (12:45:48 AM): I listened to what I had to listen too, mom driving around and it was oldies, hanging out with my black friends, it was rap and R&B
Huggybear747 (12:45:55 AM): Then it was grunge and metal
OctopusFleg (12:45:57 AM): i was the only one, along with this black dude i know
Huggybear747 (12:46:04 AM): but always had rap and oldies in the back of my head
OctopusFleg (12:46:10 AM): hahaa
Huggybear747 (12:46:40 AM): and the only time I wanted to listen to music for me was when I found my parent's records and looked at covers like DISCO TEX AND THE SEXOLETTES and BT EXPRESS NON STOP
OctopusFleg (12:46:49 AM): then in middle school when puffy became out and the words "all about the benjermins" came out, i started liking rock
Huggybear747 (12:47:01 AM): and this german disco record with a girl in a wet tshirt
OctopusFleg (12:47:05 AM): hahaha
OctopusFleg (12:47:07 AM): thats tight
Huggybear747 (12:47:10 AM): fascinated me to no end
Huggybear747 (12:47:29 AM): I remember it took so long to actually even listen to those records
Huggybear747 (12:48:11 AM): I remember listening to Fat boys and stuff with my friends when I was real young, but I never really delved into my parent's records until they were in a packed box, in my room in GA where I had nothing to do
Huggybear747 (12:48:17 AM): and they just spoke to me
Huggybear747 (12:49:03 AM): but then on, I did still listen to listen to what everyone else listened too
Huggybear747 (12:49:12 AM): even in hip hop and vinyl
Huggybear747 (12:49:26 AM): but most everything after that point was new and exciting
Huggybear747 (12:49:57 AM): but I still listened to the underground sources, the CMJ magazines, my friend Kevin who had some knowledge and records
OctopusFleg (12:50:07 AM): hahah
Huggybear747 (12:50:22 AM): pretty soon it the newness and excitingness wore off
Huggybear747 (12:50:34 AM): it took a couple of years
Huggybear747 (12:50:51 AM): and I did enjoy the fact that I was the kid that "listened to the weird stuff"
OctopusFleg (12:50:51 AM): they say u change your musical taste every 7 years
OctopusFleg (12:51:01 AM): i still do
Huggybear747 (12:51:29 AM): and for a time I felt like an ambassador or something, a politician pontifficating my own personal experience
Huggybear747 (12:52:35 AM): I got caught up in the telling, I forgot about the experiencing for awhile
OctopusFleg (12:52:50 AM): yeah that happens
Huggybear747 (12:53:18 AM): if it wasn't for old vinyl and things like napster and audiogalaxy and the world wide web
Huggybear747 (12:53:39 AM): I'd still be digging, for what, I'd probably have less of a clue maybe
OctopusFleg (12:53:55 AM): yeah
Huggybear747 (12:54:04 AM): If I didn't meet the people I met
OctopusFleg (12:54:09 AM): i used to sweat shit but not pursue it
Huggybear747 (12:54:11 AM): I'd still be digging
OctopusFleg (12:54:15 AM): now i pursue all
Huggybear747 (12:54:43 AM): Well, it's a trend I feel amongst our brethren
Huggybear747 (12:54:51 AM): and I hope the trend continues
OctopusFleg (12:54:58 AM): i mean that in terms of many things
Huggybear747 (12:55:03 AM): I know
OctopusFleg (12:55:03 AM): it is a trend
OctopusFleg (12:55:05 AM): its good
Huggybear747 (12:55:14 AM): It is living
OctopusFleg (12:55:20 AM): thats true
OctopusFleg (12:55:27 AM): very true
Huggybear747 (12:55:40 AM): who knows what happens next, but it's exciting now
Huggybear747 (12:55:44 AM): for sure
OctopusFleg (12:56:02 AM): thats true
Huggybear747 (12:56:50 AM): damn straight
Huggybear747 (12:57:01 AM): I'd put a brick on it
Huggybear747 (12:58:46 AM): Yeah, it's time for that sandwich
Huggybear747 (12:58:54 AM): life is sweet
Huggybear747 (12:59:21 AM): gotta have some bread to counterbalance the sweet, add some hot maybe, and a little tinge of sour
OctopusFleg (12:59:49 AM): haha
OctopusFleg (12:59:52 AM): thats true
Huggybear747 (12:59:57 AM): delicate, yet sophisticated like a faggot with brittle bone disease
OctopusFleg (1:00:02 AM): the flavors
OctopusFleg (1:00:18 AM): word up
Huggybear747 (1:00:25 AM): peass out brotha
Huggybear747 (1:00:31 AM): night!
OctopusFleg (1:00:34 AM): peace yo
